Execution sequence
- Complete the initial effort using the assigned load, repetitions and effort limit.
- Set the load down safely and time the short prescribed rest.
- Perform the additional segment. Repeat that sequence only when instructed.
Reading a program example
The source notes show twelve repetitions, ten to fifteen seconds of rest, then seven additional repetitions. This is an example: do not force seven repetitions with poor technique.
Important distinction
Rest-pause often involves high effort, but absolute failure is not an automatic instruction. Your coach must specify the limit. Cluster rests are planned within a set and do not necessarily follow severe fatigue.
Check before starting
- Plan a safe way to set down a heavy free weight.
- Do not add extra segments on your own.
- Do not compensate for lost range or unusual pain with more repetitions.
Frequently asked questions
Must every segment reach absolute failure?
Only if your coach explicitly prescribes that limit for the exercise and session. Safe stopping and controlled technique take priority over forcing a number.
How short is the break?
The source example uses ten to fifteen seconds. The duration in your individual plan takes priority.
